Facebook Establishes New Metaverse Project Group as it Focuses on the Next Connectivity Shift

According to Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), chief Andrew Bosworth

“FRL has been focused on building products that deliver presence across digital spaces for years. Portal and Oculus allow you to teleport into a room with someone else, regardless if you are physically far away, or to new virtual realms and experiences. To realize our full vision of the future, we need to be able to teleport you into a room with another person. Meta, we also need to build the connective tissue between these spaces – so you can remove the limitations of physics and move between them with the same ease as moving from one room in your home to the next.”

The new project group will be responsible for establishing key parameters in what has now become a major focus for The Social Network.

As you may have noticed, Facebook is looking to the next stage in digital connection. The Metaverse concept will play a key role, as the platform seeks to facilitate new forms of online interaction based upon your digital self.

The Metaverse is a virtual space where your digital persona may exist and interact in a variety ways. While there have been many iterations, such as Second Life and the developing VR space, the Metaverse is a more complete version of the same. It allows you to feel connected with others in a wider digital space.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stressed the importance and value of the Metaverse in his company’s plans last Thursday, in an article. interview with The Verge.

As per Zuckerberg:

“The metaverse is a vision that spans many companies – the whole industry. It can be described as the successor of the mobile internet. And it’s certainly not something that any one company is going to build, but I think a big part of our next chapter is going to hopefully be contributing to building that, in partnership with a lot of other companies and creators and developers.”

Zuckerberg noted that Facebook would become a Metaverse company over the next five year. with the digital realm set to incorporate all of Facebook’s various tools and platforms into a broader, all-encompassing experience.

This may cause concern given the enormous power Facebook has over our daily lives and inputs. But this is Zuckerberg’s grand vision and the new project group will be responsible to develop and advance towards that next stage.

Facebook has also appointed some top executives to the new group to underscore this emphasis and emphasize the importance it places on the project. 

“To focus our efforts, and deliver on this vision,” we have brought together the teams that have been driving some fundamental work under the new. Meta PG. I’m excited to welcome Vishal Shah, who joins us from Instagram to lead this new product group; Vivek Sharma, who joins us from FB Gaming, will lead the Horizon teams, and Oculus OG Jason Rubin, who also joins from FB Gaming, will lead the Content team as he and Vivek continue their work with FB Gaming partners on expanding the size and capabilities of Facebook’s gaming platforms.”

Shah has been a key player in the development of Instagram’s creator tools. He will now transition to this larger phase.

It’s a huge project and feels very conceptual. We don’t know how the Metaverse concept will evolve.

It is still evolving in many ways, starting with the expansion of eCommerceTo the evolution of ARThe boom in virtual clothing and outfits, and branching out into VR. Each of these elements has great potential. The Metaverse will seek to combine them all into one entity, increasing expression, creativity, connection, and more.

It’s a big idea, and Facebook is emphasizing it. It’s possible to see it, even though you may not be able yet. But it will soon become clear and present.
