Resource List: 40+ Sites For Writers

Resource List: 40+ Sites For Writers

Typewriter Keys

We’ve complied a list of 40+ sites where writers can publish their work without needing to have their own website.

Over the next month or so, we’ll post to all the sites on this list to see which ones it’s actually worth taking the time to submit your content to.

We decided to include some older sites, such as, EzineArticles and WritingForums.com to see how they compare with some of the newer sites for writers.
We’ve divided the sites into two categories:

  • Articles sites - non-fiction article writing
  • Creative writing sites - poetry, short stories, screenplays etc..

There are a couple of sites on the list where you can write articles along with creative writing, such as, Gather.com and ThisIsBy.us. We’ve included these in the creative writing section.

We thought the most valuable thing a writer can receive is feedback on their work, so, we’ll look at the number of comments each article/story/poem receives to determine what sites it’s worth submitting your content to.

Although you don’t need your own website to write for these sites, we’ll also look at the traffic your own website can expect to attract from each site.

If there are any other factors you think we should include then please leave them in the comments section at the end of this article.

Also, if you know of any other sites where you can submit your own written content that are not on this list then please leave a link in the comments section below.

  1. Good list. A number of sites I haven’t seen before that look like good content sources.

    Thanks

  2. I’ve just finished re-working my creative writing site and I’m looking for new writers:

    http://www.backhandstories.com

The goal for the site is to give new writers some exposure and feedback on their work.

    Cheers!

  3. Great list. Good work!

  4. I really liked your list. I wanted to also offer a site called http://www.DivineCaroline.com
It’s a community for women that covers everything from relationships, kids, careers, entertainment, travel, home, food…you get the idea. You can publish articles, stories, musings all in a professional context. The content is reviewed but not edited. A nice place for writer’s voice to come through.
    Again great list!

  5. It’s a good list that cannot be complained about. It’s good to know that there are so many supporting sites for article writers.

  6. Right now I could use some feed -back on my article Write for the Throne. Whenever the timing is right give it a review. It isn’t too long. And I think it’s nicely written. But right now I am unable to work steadly at writing.

  7. Your’e right. It’s a very good list. And I wonder which writer would have enough time to fill them all. We’ll never have to worry about running out of places to advertise.

  8. Kate I will visit Devine Caroline. It sounds like a site that you feel is worthwhile. Thanks! for sharing your discoveries with me.

  9. great list. i’ve bookmarked it… i love the classification and the fact that these can be my top article sites now.

    thx!!

  10. Isabel

This list helps, but doesn`t narrow anything down.

I still need help — I am a writer because I love to write. I want a site that`ll give me feed back and constructive criticism. Which site is the best?

    Please help.

  11. You should also check out www.WritingRoom.com. WritingRoom.com is a social network for both professional and aspiring writers. More than just a social network, we offer tools, tips, contests, author interviews and the opportunity to become a published author.

Each month the staff at WritingRoom will be scouring the thousands of fabulous writings posted at WritingRoom.com to find our next Discovered Author to publish. We are looking for a vast collection of inspirational poems, creative short stories or the next great novel.

  12. Mimi

Steer clear of gather.com. While they have a flashy look and they “sound” good, payments have dropped to the point of pennies for hundreds of posts. The also have a reputation of hiring people to “boost their community”, squeezing them for all their creative ideas and dropping them. I have firsthand knowledge of a woman who worked for them and did such a great job she was offered several jobs WHILE working for them. Then out of no where they dropped her, to their loss, she has now gone on to be very successful as a community manager. Long story short, if you are going to post quality articles, post them on a site that appreciates you and compensates you accordingly. A word to the wise, this company may look good but scruples are lacking.

  13. Thanks for listing Helium.com first in your top 40 article-writing websites. I’m on staff at Helium, and if anyone wants to know more about writing opportunities there, my inbox is always open: bwhitlock@helium.com.

    Some highlights:

    * Unlimited publishing for non-exclusive content on topics you choose and titles you can suggest. Upfront payments, ad revenue, plus other bonus opportunities.

    * About 20 writing contests weekly, with $130 payout for each one. (no limits to participating)

    * Freelance gigs from over 500 publishers from the magazine, Internet and newspaper publishing world.

    * The largest — and many say most supportive — writing community in the world.

  14. bob schmidt

I have earned $100. in the past month at Helium in the Political Writing Contests. It is a great site for both learning, and earning.
