What about Inspiration? I used them in school and I’m looking for a tool to use at work now.

  3. For people who like mindmapping and want it free, I’ve recently pulled together in one place the details of all of the web-based ones, over at
    http://www.mind-mapping.org/web-based-mindmappers/

This shows what’s free (and how much the subscriptions are for the others), what can import and export MindManager and FreeMind maps and, of course, where to find them. They all let you collaborate with others when making a mindmap.

  4. Thanks for including Gliffy on this list - we appreciate it! M, try any of the six reviewed above (or other suggestions in the comments) and see which ones feel similar to Inspiration for you. Gliffy welcomes feature requests or suggestions to have it meet your needs. Again, thanks for the mention of Gliffy on the mindmapping list,

  5. Thank you to everyone for your comments.

@Omar - thanks for the tip. I’ve added it to the list.

@M THelander - thanks for the tip. Inspiration looks like a good program, but I was hoping to share the mind maps with readers. Do you know if you can do this with Inspiration?

@Vic Gee. Thanks for the link. I like your mind map style menu on your homepage. Do you have any suggestions as to what mind mapping software is the best for sharing?

@Debi K - no problem. I like how you can create a floor plan on your site too.

Vic Gee reply on April 19, 2008:

    Chris,

Best for sharing? I’d say MindMeister if you’re prepared to pay the subscription. It’s not the most expensive, but despite that it is the most developed and is always driving onwards. They just released version 2. Their free version is limited to six maps and doesn’t give access to all the features.

For completely free ones I have a weakness for bubbl.us, with it’s elegantly simple interface, ability to have more than one mind map on a sheet, and flexible hierarchy - or rather, a net and not a hierarchy if that’s what you want.

    Best,
    Vic

Thanks for taking the time out to give your opinion, Vic Gee. It’s much appreciated. Not sure if I really want to go down the paid route, but I’ll take a closer look at bubbl.us.
